Mega Macao — April 2008 Show Report

More exhibitors
Building on the success of the debut show last October, the second Mega Macao took place from 21 to 23 April, with an increased line up of exhibitors. Over 920 exhibitors in over 1,230 booths set up their displays in the spectacular exhibition and entertainment complex, the Venetian Convention & Exhibition Center to present new products and ranges. Thirteen countries and regions, including China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, The Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, USA and Vietnam were represented at the show.
The organiser, Kenfair International Limited, seized a unique opportunity by demonstrating first-mover advantage in staging the first-ever trade fair of its kind last October in “The New Macao”, which is now transforming itself into a key destination for the Far East. The superb Venetian Convention & Exhibition Center, plus the casino and hotel resort complex provided the perfect blend of leisure, entertainment, business, convention and exhibition facilities all under one roof.
Convergence of quality buyers
Over the 3-day show, a total of 8,547 buyers from around 100 countries were presented with the widest range of products, covering gifts, premiums, housewares, toys, consumer electronics, apparel, home textiles, fabrics and accessories, and travel goods and luggage. Buyers were attracted by the commercially-priced goods, along with the wide variety and business potential the Asian exhibiting suppliers had on offer.
Apart from Hong Kong, China and Macao being the largest contingent of the visitors, the show saw a solid number of overseas buyers. While the USA and Australia topped the foreign country list, the attendance of buyers from major European and SE-Asian countries was very satisfactory.

Adding action & attractions
In addition to showcasing apparel from their stands, several Chinese garment and textile exhibitors had their well-designed clothing on parade in daily fashion shows. This added action proved to be a great channel for the apparel exhibits sales.
The organiser Kenfair International is a keen supporter of product creativity and innovation. A central display area of showcases in the middle of the hall highlighted the 16 winning entries of innovative toy designs of the Hong Kong Toy Design Competition co-organised by the Toys Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. As a spotlight on Hong Kong’s inventive toy design talent, these creative designs could become the hot products of tomorrow.
Great service for buyers
This year, Kenfair put further effort in arranging convenient free shuttle bus services linking Guangzhou and Macao, offering a relaxed transfer from Canton Fair to Mega Macao. Buyers were able to commute both quickly and direct from the Canton Fair to the Venetian venue, saving time and money.
Hugely-upbeat response
The 3-day Macao show was well regarded, as reflected by the buyers’ positive feedback via onsite questionnaire surveys and interviews. The vast majority of buyers rated the show as very good for a new show with its diversified range of products and suppliers. As for exhibitors, many of them reported that they achieved much better-than-expected results and had met a good number of highly potential buyers.
The right place for the right show
“Macao is now demonstrating its unique and growing attraction for business events in Asia. The superb hotels, entertainment and event facilities are creating a whole new Asian trade show experience which cannot be replicated elsewhere. The city’s convenient proximity to the low cost manufacturing base of the Pearl River Delta as well as its well-connected transport to nearby Chinese cities and Hong Kong ensure our global buyers time and cost effective business trips in the South China region,” Mr. Herbert Ip, Chairman of Kenfair International said.

Kenfair International is upbeat about the next edition of Mega Macao scheduled for April, 2009.
Dates will be announced shortly.
